“Technology must be understood by law in order to comply with law”
Biography
Dr Ian Warren is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Deakin University who specialises in the legal and evidentiary dimensions of new technologies. This includes developing greater comparative understanding of how technologies are used and conceived under law, with particular emphasis on their use in preventing crime, collecting admissible evidence or ensuring proof of criminal conduct. Dr Warren has written extensively on transnational information sharing in criminal investigations and its impacts on policing, justice administration, extradition and evidence exchange. This extends to fields of lawful remote hacking by police, telecommunications intercepts and mail interception. These issues are of important contemporary significance given the transnational scale of remote data interception for law enforcement purposes.
