Usability of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) devices.

About the study
CSRI researchers are exploring usable security and its impact on user adoption of MFA. The study involves testing physical authentication devices to better understand the likelihood of users adopting these devices.
What does the study involve?
Research participants will receive three different physical MFA devices (security keys) to use during a one-month period. After the testing period, participants will engage in a short interview (30-45 mins) to discuss their experiences. At the end of the study, participants are able to keep all three devices (RRP $250) for personal use.
Why is this research important?
When it comes to protecting your data, MFA is a more secure approach than simply using passwords. But using your smartphone for MFA can be time-consuming to set up and use. Physical authentication devices can provide an easy and streamlined way to use MFA. Our study raises the importance on how usability features differ amongst user groups and how neglecting this fact may have been resulting in low adoption rates of critical cyber security related services.
